As reported by The Borneo Post, Petronas Gas Bhd (Petronas Gas) president has officially announced the building of a liquefied natural gas (LNG) terminal in Lahad Datu to cater for the new Sabah east coast gas plant and new industries in that area. The announcement was the first from the company, following Sabah state officials’ talks about adorning Sabah with a LNG terminal.

As reported by Business Times, Petroliam Nasional Bhd (Petronas) plans to grow its downstream business by banking on lucrative specialty chemicals and an aggressive international expansion.
This expansion will be driven by Asia, which is growing faster than the rest of the world, then supported by a rising middle class country. The national oil company also refines oil into petrol, operates petrol stations, and produces petrochemicals.

PETRONAS to build a third LNG Terminal in Lumut
KUALA LUMPUR: Petroliam Nasional Bhd (Petronas) is considering building a third re-gasification plant or liquified natural gas (LNG) terminal in Lumut, Perak, to address the shortage of supply requirement in the power sector and industry users in Peninsular Malaysia.
Its president and chief executive officer Datuk Shamsul Azhar Abbas said although it is still at the planning stage, Petronas sees the need for another LNG terminal due to the increasing demand for gas in Peninsular Malaysia.

The 20th World Petroleum Congress is hosted by Qatar Petroleum and will take place at the Qatar National Convention Centre (QNCC) in Doha, Qatar, from 4-8 December 2011. Since its establishment in 1933, this is the first time that the World Petroleum Congress will be hosted in the Middle East.
