Huge potential of EOR in Malaysia Oil and Gas Industry


As reported by The Borneo Post, Petroliam Nasional Bhd (Petronas) has announced plans including the development of enhanced oil recovery (EOR) costing RM46 billion as part of its comprehensive RM300 billion capital expenditure (capex), affirming its commitment to catalyse productivity in the industry.

According to Petronas, the capex was boosted in part to venture into more challenging and green field projects such as EOR, deep-water and unconventional hydrocarbons.

PETRONAS to gearing up its exploration and production in 2012

As reported by The Borneo Post, Petroliam Nasional Bhd (Petronas) is gearing to sustain and optimise production on the back of its massive capital expenditure (capex) to catalyse key drivers in mega projects involving enhanced oil recovery (EOR), petrochemicals, storage facilities and extraction from recently identified oilfields.

Elaborating on the sector’s prospects for 2012 was HwangDBS Vickers Research Sdn Bhd (HwangDBS Research) analyst Quah He Wei who opined, “We expect Malaysia’s O&G upcycle to start in 2012 with Petronas going full throttle to sustain oil production.

Dialog to triple the combined capacity at its oil terminals


As reported by The Borneo Post on 6 Jan, Dialog Group Bhd (Dialog) is expected to triple the combined capacity at its oil terminals in Kertih and Tanjung Langsatwithin the next three years, an effort that will underpin future growth.

“With phase one of Pengerang and phase three of Tanjung Langsat coming on-stream, its oil terminals capacity will be increased from its current production of 1.0 million cubic metres to 2.8 million cubic metres,”

Recovery of Malaysia Oil and Gas Sector in 2012


The Borneo Post reported on 28 Dec that the recovery for the Malaysia oil and gas(O&G) sector may be in the pipeline next year in view of key potential tie-ups and new marginal oilfields to provide order book replenishment over the next few years.

OSK Research Sdn Bhd (OSK Research) in its recent report remarked, “We expect new contract awards, especially for the new marginal oilfields as well as the development of the existing marginal oilfields to start by the second half of 2012 and peak well into 2016.

Iran to Invest US$50 Billion to Explore Oil and Gas Fields in Caspian Sea

As reported by Bernama News on 24 Dec, the Iranian oil ministry envisaged investing up to US$50 billion to explore oil and gas fields in the Caspian Sea, a member of parliament, Ali-Asghar Yousefnejad, said on Friday.

"In a recent meeting with the oil minister, he explained on plans to explore oil and gas fields in the Caspian Sea," Yousefnejad said.

Petronas LNG Terminal Project in Lahad Datu got fully supported


As reported by Bernama News on Dec 16, Petronas' plan to set up a liquefied natural gas (LNG) re-gasification terminal in Lahad Datu will not only solve power shortage in the district but also bring spin-off opportunities to it.

Assistant Minister to the Chief Minister, Datuk Hj Datu Nasrun Datu Mansur, said he was aware of the proposed Petronas mega project and people in Lahad Datu fully supported it.

2011 was a year of significant work for Malaysian engineering and fabrication companies, which will likely to continue into 2012, it is expected that other segments of the value chain will begin to pick up especially for offshore players.

According to RHB Research Institute Sdn Bhd (RHB Research) in its research report yesterday, there would be work for hook up and commissioning as well as installation of new facilities and pipelines, which all that required vessel support. It also anticipated more offshore exploration both in Malaysia waster and overseas, “And quite likely in our view – where Petronas goes, Malaysian service providers will follow.”

SapuraCrest obtains shareholders approval to merge with Kencana

As reported by Bernama News on Dec 14, SapuraCrest Petroleum Bhd has obtained shareholders approval to merge with Kencana Petroleum Bhd, to set the stage for the establishment of the world's fourth largest oil and gas services provider.

Group president cum chief executive officer Datuk Seri Shahril Shamsuddin said the company is now only awaiting approval from Kencana's shareholders, at its extraordinary general meeting (EGM) tomorrow, before moving on with the merger.

According to June 2010 BP Statistical Energy Survey, Malaysia had proved oil reserves of 5.5 thousand million barrels or 0.4% of world total at the end of 2009. Production was 740 thousand barrels daily, a drop of 3.7% compared to 2008 figures. Regarding natural gas, the same report stated that in 2009, Malaysia has proved reserves of 2.38 trillion cubic metres or 1.3% of world total. Production was 62.7 billion cubic metres, which was a 3.3% decline over 2008 figure. The country's major domestic oil production occurs offshore and primarily near West Malaysia.

Kencana win Wheatstone LNG contract worth RM1 billion

Petronas Chemicals to build new plants in Sabah and Johor

 
Reported by Bernama News yesterday, Petronas Chemical Group (PCG) is in the process of constructing two new plants, one each in Sabah and Johor, at a cost of over US$21 billion.

Its president Dr Abdul Hapiz Abdullah said PCG will build the Sabah Ammonia Urea (SAMUR) fertiliser plant in Sipitang, Sabah at a cost of US$1.6 billion, while in Pengerang, Johor, it will set up the US$20 billion RAPID (Refinery and Petrochemicals Integrated Development) plant.

SapuraCrest Kencana eyeing more international projects


As reported by Business Times on 10/12/2011, SapuraCrest Kencana Petroleum Bhd, the upcoming merged entity between Malaysia’s two largest oil and gas (O&G) players, is eyeing more international  projects, especially in Australia and Brazil, to boost its already fat order book of RM13 billion.

SapuraCrest Petroleum Bhd executive vice-chairman and president, Datuk Seri Shahril Shamsuddin, said the company and Kencana Petroleum Bhd were bidding for multi-billion ringgit worth of O&G jobs stretching from Malaysia to Brazil.
